Our Community
This web site is provided as a service to the Garden Villas community and
the general public by the Garden Villas Community Association (GVCA). The goal
of the site is to provide information on the following: events and issues affecting
residents; activities of GVCA and other groups that are active in the community;
information for people thinking of moving into Garden Villas; links to other
sites with information that could be important to residents; historical information
about the community and area.
Garden Villas occupies 875.871 acres bounded by Airport Boulevard on the south,
a railroad to the west, Sims Bayou to the north and Texas Highway 35 to the
east. In 1930 the developer planted 6,000 pecan tree seedlings along the streets.
Nearly all of these trees survive today to form a dense shade canopy over streets
and provide lots of pecans each year. Garden Villas has a large squirrel population.
Garden Villas subdivision is a deed-restricted family-oriented community with
comfortable homes on large lots (up to two acres) The subdivision has two parks,
Garden Villas Elementary School, Ortiz Middle School, a garden club and many
other activities. It is in the Houston Independent School District.
Garden Villas has an active community association (GVCA) that causes deed restrictions
to be enforced and acts as an advocate for the community to the City of Houston.
Also, GVCA sponsors local Boy Scout Troop 16 (since 1949), Neighborhood Night
Out, picnics, and other activities enjoyed by the community.
The City of Houston provides police, fire, and Emergency Medical Services (EMS),
as well as water, sewer, and garbage pickup. Garden Villas subdivision is located
in Houston City Council District I, which is currently represented by City Council
Member James Rodriguez.
